Rathna Ella waterfall falls by Hasalaka Oya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River that originates from the Knuckles Mountain Range. The water from the falls irrigates the paddy fields of the surrounding villages in the Eastern Valley of Mahiyangana. Superstitious villagers believe there are seven vessels laden with precious stones concealed near the falls but found only five so far.
