Batalegala mountain, visible as you approach Kadugannawa Pass in Kandy, has been shrouded in a thick jungle since time immemorial. It is currently being converted into a Buddhist temple.

The magnificent spectacle of the rock stands as a colossus dwarfing the surrounding landscape to the traveler proceeding from Metropolitan Colombo to Kandy.

Batalegala mountain is surrounded by satellites, such as Devanagala mountain in the northeast, which was blessed by the visit of the legendary God Alutnuwara Deiyo. From the north, there are the Kaithankadagale and Urakanda hillocks, as well as Montane mountain, Wakirigala mountain, and Uthuwankanda.

Illustration Nature has bestowed upon Batalegala mountain a vista of cascading waterfalls, lush meadows, and intriguing scenery. Westerners affectionately refer to it as the "Bible Rock" because it resembles an open book.

Legendary caves, an old devalaya dedicated to the God Suniyam, and a drought-resistant water spring in the mount appear to be divinely bestowed treasures. The proposed dagobo will be modeled after the well-known Kalutara Chaitiya. Mawanella is the only way to get to Batalegala. Visitors can reach the rock by taking a right before the narrow Mawanella Bridge.
