Pidurutalagala is the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, at 2,524 m (8,281 ft) tall, and it lies in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, north-east of Nuwara Eliya.

Today, the whole world is aware that Sri Lanka is a beautiful tourist destination. There are many unique places in Sri Lanka that are mentioned at the top of every tourist list. Each location is specific and some locations are easily accessible and some places require specific permission to enter.

Surrounded by a spectacular mountain range, the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka has declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. That list includes the mountains above 2,000 meters. It is noteworthy that the highest point in Sri Lanka is located in this central hill country. At 2,524 m (8,281 ft), Pidurutalagala is the highest mountain in Sri Lanka and covers an area of ​​about 7,600 hectares. It is important to note that this is a high-security zone that cannot enter without special permission.

In addition, the Pidurutalagala Range is endowed with a highly sensitive ecosystem of biodiversity and is a major watershed in Sri Lanka. Belihuloya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River, originates from the Pidurutalagala Mountain Range. There are also several waterfalls that can be seen, especially the one you can see when you come to Pidurutalagala with Love's Leap Falls. Ramboda Falls, Garadi Falls, Wedamula Falls, Rathu Paalama Falls, and Maturata Falls flow from the top of Pidurutalagala Hill.

The Pidurutalagala forest, which is rich in endemic animals, is a natural beauty. Leopards are a common sight, as are Sand Deer, Meerkats, Green Leopards, Sand Leopards, Black Monkeys, Rilawa, Seals, Parrots, and Squirrels are such animals can be seen in this forest. Mount Pidurutalagala is rich in vegetation including Heena, Nelu, Maha Rathmal, Hunu Kirilla, Katukanda, and Dawul Kurundu.

How to get to Pidurutalagala

To reach Pidurutalagala you must first visit Nuwara Eliya. Then travel 6.1 km on the Nuwara Eliya Uda Pussellawa road to the Pidurutalagama Mountain entrance. From here it is about 5.5 km to the Pidurutalagala hilltop and you must use your own vehicle or private taxi. You will not be allowed to walk or stop until you reach the top of the hill.

How to get permission to go to Pidurutalagala

Special permission must be obtained before traveling to visit Pidurutalagala. You must request permission by letter. A sign has been erected to mark the highest point in Sri Lanka as you ascend the Pidurutalagala hill. The arrows are marked to indicate its four directions. Mount Pidurutalagala is also important as a destination for 4 of the 94 maps that divide Sri Lanka. These are the Badulla Map, Nuwara Eliya Map, Gampola Map and Hanguranketha Map. Also, the Grinch Line 0.0% is at the top of this hill.

Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation Telecom's main telecommunication company is located at the top of Pidurutalagala hill. The Sri Lanka Army will provide security to the area.

The Silumina Seya Vehera is located on the left to indicate the highest point. In this very beautiful temple, a statue of Sumana Saman God has been erected in the direction of Sri Pada (Adam's Peak) Mountain.

A post box installed for World Postal Day 2018 can be seen on the top of Pidurutalagala hill. It states that from there you can send a postcard to your loved one from the highest point in Sri Lanka.

Lake Gregory joins Nuwara Eliya to add to the beauty of the city and to make it even more spectacular. On the other hand, the beauty of Mandaram Nuwara, another beautiful village in Sri Lanka, can be seen from the top of the Pidurutalagala hilltop.

Pudurutalagala, which is very important academically, can be mentioned as a place to visit.

Best time to visit the Pudurutalagala

It is best to avoid the months of May to August since they are windy and cloudy.

Learn before you go Pudurutalagala

No flammable material can be carried to the top of Pudurutalagala hill. That is things like gas, cigarettes, and lighters.

Please note that this is a safe area, such as a hilltop, and only places where you are allowed to go are allowed.

As the weather changes instantly, it is wise to get ready for it.
