Laxapana Falls
Laxapana Ella Falls is 126 m (413 ft) high and the 8th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, and 625th highest waterfall in the world. Laxapana waterfall lies in Maskeliya in the Nuwara Eliya district in the Central province of Sri Lanka.
Maskeliya Oya, a confluence of Kehelgamuwa Oya and Maskeliya Oya, flows to the Kelani River and forms the Laxapana waterfall. It gives the name Laxapana to a pair of hydroelectric power plants. The old Laxapana power station generates 50 MW of electricity, while the new Laxapana power station supplies 100 MW to the national grid.
Folklore
According to popular legend, this is where Buddha mended his saffron robe while visiting Sri Pada. The falls get their name from the Sinhala words "Laxa" (hundred thousand) and "Pahana" or "Pashana" (rock).
