Kabaragala is the highest peak in the Dolosbage Range, is about 1,506 m (4,941 ft) high. Kabaragala mountaineering is one of the most popular mountaineering in Sri Lanka. This mountain range is located near Nawalapitiya town in the Kandy district.

If you have ever been to Nawalapitiya, there is no reason not to see Kabaragala mountain peak. However, the details of the climb, which the climbers share on their social networks, suggest that it is a stunning paradise that offers them a unique experience.

How to get To Kabaragala

If you are coming to climb this hill, you must first visit Nawalapitiya town. There are plenty of buses from Kandy to Nawalapitiya. It is also possible to travel by train from Kandy to Nawalapitiya.

If you are coming by bus from Colombo, the easiest way to reach you is to take a Colombo-Hatton bus and get off at Ginigathhena and from there to Nawalapitiya.

Tourists coming from Colombo can take the Badulla train directly to Nawalapitiya.

Access to Kabaragala can be found by following both the Nawalapitiya Ginigathhena road or the Nawalapitiya Dolosbage road. You will be able to get off at the entrance to the mountain by hearing the Kabaragala climbing junction on a Nawalapitiya Dolosbage bus. From there you have to cross the tea plantations and the Phineas forest and walk up the hill. If possible, it will be easier for you to ask someone in the village and ask for directions.

The Raxagala (Kinihira Kanda) could be seen in the middle of the climb. Raxagala, at 1.438 meters, is the second-highest mountain in the Dolosbage range (4,718 feet).

The wonder of the top of the mountain is indescribable. When you reach the top of this Kabaragala which is often covered with fog, you can see the Kotmale Reservoir, Monarakanda and Pussellawa areas, the areas around Ambuluwawa, and the southwestern areas of the central hills up to Sri Pada.

Learn before you go Kabaragala

Leeches are common; it is best to wear leech socks, and a solution must be found.

If you start your trek in the morning, you will reach the foothills again in the evening, and keep in mind that the weather in the surrounding hills changes quickly.

It's also a good idea to wear a raincoat or other waterproof clothes in case of heavy downpours in Kabaragala.

It would be necessary to have a good hiking guide because getting lost on the trail is possible.

A local guide is recommended if you are visiting for the first time.
